Bell 230 Scale R/C Helicopter Project
-
Darrel and I went to do some Scale Heli Flying
- Mercy Air Paint Job
- 7/9/2007 I found a number of
defective A123 cells by using a 100W 50 Ohm resistor, a wattmeter and
a voltmeter and did some more testing -
here is a video of the
Navigation Lights and Landing Gear test

5/31/2007 The FIRST FLIGHT
A team of flight engineers (wife and son) :) helped set the target
head speed of 1150 RPM. Three hovering maneuvers were achieved
before running out of battery power!
- Here is the airframe and pilot (5/31/2007)
- 12/24/06 Tail boom installed
- Fuselage after some body work and assembly 11-1-06
- Benzine Trainer Mechanic's - Darrel and I
converted to electric by machining a new
clutch adapter and motor plate 12-17-06
- Actro 32-4 Motor, Phoenix HV110 speed controller
- Wood Installation into the fuselage 12-18-06 to
2/2/06 (Finally took the plunge and glassed the wood work in!!!)
- Took me some time to get the retracts and to get them partially installed in
the wood work first!!! (Good excuse eh?)
- Retracts are in and it took me some time to decide on
the technique to installed them - I finally decided on a carbon fiber "spar"
that
runs across the main section of the wood work. This appears to be
very strong and still light weight. Some re-enforcement is still needed.
I installed a Futaba MSA-10 and a Go Slow module - this was fun
to set up and provides a scale look when they are functioning!
-2/15/06 Bell 230 Stand's on her own three feet!
- 3-1-2007 Gearing up for electric motor operation
(Stock Drive Products on the left)
installed the 48 spline pulley to match the RPM of the motor to the
mechanics
(Many Thanks to Darrel for the help on this!!!)
- A123 Batteries and Power supply
- Set up for 14s2p
- 5/2/2007 Installed the Eagle Tree recorder and
programmed the ESC for Governor mode
here is the data on this pass
